
A recent European Commission event, opened by Oana Langa, focused on the EU’s Industrial Carbon Management Strategy and the critical role of Carbon Capture and Storage in achieving carbon neutrality while maintaining industrial competitiveness.
The discussion emphasized the need for multimodal transport, including, alongside pipelines, to meet the ambitious CO2 injection capacity targets set by the Net-Zero Industry Act. Industry leaders, including INTERTANKO, ECOLOG (represented by Panos Deligiannis), and others, stressed the importance of in “gluing together” the CCS value chain, calling for clearer regulations, standardization, and allowing CO2 transport outside the EU/EEA. The Commission acknowledged the vital input from the shipping sector, emphasizing the necessity for ongoing dialogue and collaboration to shape future CO2 transport rules and enable new business models.
